Super Eagles roundup: Aina, Ebuehi the heroes for their clubs as Kalu regains conciousness

Sunday was another day of footballing action across major European leagues, and Nigerian stars yet again stood out

Tyronne Ebuehi’s career at Venezia got off to a promising start after he scored the winning penalty that helped them beat Frosinone to progress to the next round of the Coppa Italia.

Ebuehi played from start to finish, and his kick gave Venezia the victory. The two sides could not be separated after 90 minutes, but Mirko Gori put Frosinone ahead three minutes into extra time.

However, Francesco Di Mariano’s penalty in the 101st minute restored parity for the home side. The match went to penalties as neither side was unable to find the winner.

With the scores tied at 7-7 after both sides had missed one penalty each, Federico Gatti his spot-kick for Frosinone.

Ebuehi then stepped forward to take for Venezia, and he duly converted to send the newly-promoted side into the next round.

In another Coppa Italia clash, Ola Aina also scored the winning penalty as Torino knocked out Cremonese. After a goalless draw in normal time and 30 minutes of extra time, it went to penalties.

Torino came out winners in the shootout, with Aina scoring the fourth penalty after Cremonese had missed three of their four penalties.

Meanwhile, in France, Moses Simon continued his impressive start to the season with a brace of assists as Nantes beat Metz 2-0.

However, there was a scare at the Orange Velodrome as Samuel Kalu collapsed in Bordeaux’s 2-2 draw against Olympique Marseille.

Kalu went down unchallenged in the fifth minute, but fortunately, he regained consciousness before going off in the 14th minute.

In Holland, it was a day to forget for Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye after conceding four times in Sparta Rotterdam’s 4-0 loss to Utrecht.
