“Everyone was scared” – French star saw flashes of Eriksen in Kalu’s collapse

The Nigerian international scared the living daylight out of his teammates and fans when he went down in a heap during Bordeaux’s league tie at Marseille on Sunday night

Bordeaux forward Remi Oudin has admitted he was shocked to see teammate Samuel Kalu lose consciousness in the opening minutes of Les Girondins’ matchday 2 Ligue 1 clash against Marseille.

With only five minutes on the clock at the Stade Orange Velodrome, Kalu collapsed as Marseille forward Dmitri Payet prepared to take a free-kick.

The medical staff quickly attended to the Super Eagles midfielder, but Oudin confessed that he was scared as flashes of Christian Eriksen’s collapse a few weeks ago made the moment uncomfortable.

Denmark star Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during his side’s Euro 2020 game against Finland in Copenhagen, causing the suspension of the match in the first half.

The former Tottenham star spent time at the hospital where he survived the attack, but he didn’t play any further part at the tournament.

Kalu, however, surprisingly made a quick recovery and was back on the pitch moments after regaining consciousness.

Manager Vladimir Petkovic took no chances, though, and sent Oudin in to replace the Nigerian star, with the French man scoring the equaliser in the 2-2 draw.

Oudin is pleased that Kalu’s story ended well.

“Samuel Kalu’s little discomfort gave us a little chill in our backs,” Oudin said as per Girondins4ever.

“With what happened during the Euro with Eriksen, obviously, we think about it. We didn’t want to go through that. We had experienced it in front of our TV, but living it for real is different…

“Everyone was scared, and it ended well; we are happy for Kalu. Everything is fine, that’s the main thing. 

“According to the doctor, it is a simple discomfort. I think there will be things that will be done on Monday to find out where it comes from.”

It would be recalled that Kalu also collapsed during a Nigerian team training session days before the Super Eagles kicked off their campaign at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The midfielder was later released from the hospital and allowed to link up with the rest of the squad, but he didn’t play a minute of football as Nigeria finished third.
