The ex-Mainz striker is likely to depart Anfield permanently this summer, but he could still sway the thoughts of the Reds tactician

Former Golden Eaglets striker Taiwo Awoniyi will finally get a chance to convince Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp that his immediate future lies at Anfield.

Awoniyi hasn’t featured for the Reds since he signed for the club in 2015, but he has been included in Liverpool’s 34-man travelling party for their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Although the 22-year-old is among the players Liverpool have put up for sale as per The Athletic, he could change Klopp’s thoughts should he impress in the pre-season training camp.

With Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota out of the squad due to their participation in Copa America and Euro 2020, Awoniyi will get enough chances to impress in the Reds warm-up fixtures.

The Nigerian striker has not had the chance to play in front of Klopp since he signed as he has gone out on loan to different clubs.

While most of the loan stints haven’t really worked out for him, Awoniyi impressed in his spell with Union Berlin last season, even though he was injured for most parts of the second half.

The 23-year-old scored five goals and registered three assists in 21 games for The Iron Ones last season. And if he can build on the performance, he may yet be able to convince Klopp to keep him at Anfield.
