Oshoala, Lukaku celebrate Giannis’ NBA title

The Super Falcons star and the Inter Milan striker were happy for the 26-year-old, who made history in the NBA finals on Tuesday

Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala and Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku have both expressed their delight after Giannis Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA title since 1971.

Giannis scored a massive 50 points as the Bucks beat the Phoenix Suns 105-98 in game six to win the series 4-2 and the NBA title.

Following the victory, Oshoala and Lukaku took to their social media accounts to celebrate the ‘Greek God’s incredible feat.

Oshoala decided to celebrate Giannis Nigerian origin with the caption: ‘Told y’all it’s d naija season.”

Meanwhile, Lukaku was more surprised and happy that Giannis finally achieved a lifelong dream.

It’s been a remarkable journey for the Greek player of Nigerian descent, who is now an NBA champion, NBA Finals MVP, A Two-time regular-season MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and five-time All-Star.

The 26-year-old  had to overcome a lot of struggles to get to where he is right now. Born in Greece to Nigerian parents, Giannis’ family were denied Greek citizenship for over 18 years, but that did not stop him from dreaming.

He did not even pick up Basketball until he turned 13 and was the 15th overall pick when he was drafted by the Bucks at the age of 18.

But despite having to face these hurdles, he finally became an NBA champion in an extraordinary fashion. The Greek star scored 50 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks in game six against the Phoenix Suns.

Although he represents Greece, Giannis is proud of his Nigerian heritage, and he hopes his success can inspire many from the continent.

”I represent both my counties Nigeria  & Greece,” Giannis said at the post-match press conference.

“A lot of kids from there. Not just from Nigeria, from the whole Africa, from the whole Europe, I know I’m a role model this should make every kid believe in their dreams,” he added.
