NPFL match week 33, Akwa United visit Rivers

The NPFL continues this week, with round 33 taking centre stage this weekend. It’s the home stretch, and the teams will be looking to climb up.

Akwa United, Nasarawa United, Rivers United, and Kano Pillars make up the top four. While languishing at the bottom are Adamawa United, Warri Wolves, Ifeanyi Ubah and Jigawa Golden Stars.

The biggest fixture this weekend has to be the one happening in Port Harcourt involving Rivers United and Akwa United

Kennedy Boboye tutored Akwa United have stayed at the top of the table for almost half the season. They are five points ahead of second-placed Nasarawa United. This week, they are away at Rivers United who look to climb up to the second position.

Akwa United are up against a Rivers United side that have a monstrous record at home. Rivers United have won 14 of their 16 games at home, scoring 27 and conceding just four. The Stanley Egwuda tutored side are five points adrift their guest, and they would look to cut it to a two-point deficit.

Fresh off defeating League holders Enyimba, Akwa United have lost just once in five matches, winning three in the process. Rivers United also boast of a similar record of three wins in five.

In their last five meetings, Rivers have won once. The last time Akwa got a point from the Port Harcourt based side was in 2017. Akwa United also have the joint highest record for points accrued in away games this season.

With the return of Olisa Ndah to the Akwa defence, they can be ensured of defensive solidity. Akwa have conceded the least goals away from home this season- 12.

Meanwhile, Rivers’ Godwin Aguda will hope to add to his goal tally in what has been a good season for him in front of goal.
