NPFL Game week 35 matches have come and gone, but the race heats up. The League’s top lynchpins continue to prove their worth.
Leaders, Akwa United, are cruising on with no form of reluctance or trepidation as they continued with their indomitable form, dispatching Jigawa Golden Stars 3-0 in Uyo.
League’s second-highest goalscorer, Charles Atshimene, played a part in the win as he scored a second-half goal to see his team through.
Friday Ubong also scored in the encounter to make it two goals in two games, while Wisdom Fernando scored his first goal in over two years to complete it.
Nasarawa United, led by the league’s highest goals scorer, Silas Nwankwo, annihilated Sunshine Stars. Nwankwo scored two goals in eight minutes to climb up to 18 goals this season, while Abdullahi and Obasi added a goal each before half-time, which was enough to seal their fate.
Kano Pillars were rescued by their skipper, Rabiu Ali, as he fired home from the penalty spot in the 54th minute, which earned the Sai Masu Gida a win over Abia Warriors.
Enyimba were on the verge of dropping points after an MFM equaliser in the 84th minute. But Anthony proved to be the hero as he scored a stoppage-time clincher to help Enyimba keep their title aspirations alive.
At the end of the day, Akwa remain at the top, while Nasarawa, Pillars and Enyimba follow suit, respectively.
