There was a Nigerian presence as the Red Devils hosted the newly-promoted Bees in a pre-season friendly clash on Wednesday night
Super Eagles new midfield general Frank Onyeka made his debut for Brentford at one of the most iconic stadiums in the world, Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old, who joined Brentford from Midtjylland on a five-year deal, came on in the second half for Max Haygarth as the Bees held their illustrious hosts to a 2-2 draw.
Onyeka showed his quality in the middle of the park, getting into challenges and using his physicality to win duels.
The Super Eagles would not have expected to make his debut at Old Trafford, but the experience should help him as he gets set for Premier League football.
Brentford had to come back twice in the game. United took the lead in the 12th minute through Anthony Elanga, who volleyed home a cross from Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
However, Thomas Frank’s men drew level eight minutes later, courtesy of a strike from Shandon Baptiste, who fired past Tom Heaton after Ivan Toney won an aerial challenge.
The game was levelled at half-time, but a peach of a goal from Andreas Pereira in the 50th minute restored United’s lead.
But Bryan Mbeumo’s left-footed strike 12 minutes from time ensured the game ended in a draw.
