Nigerian eligible youngster to make his debut for Celtic in first pre-season match

The dethroned Scottish champions will play their first pre-season game on Wednesday, in which a Dutch-Nigerian star could play his first game for the side

Osaze Urhoghide is set to make his debut for Celtic when they take on Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday, according to news on the Scottish club’s website.

Ironically, the young defender, who just turned 21 on Sunday, joined Celtic from Wednesday’s opposition for €230k on July 1st.

Osaze started his professional career with the Owls after he graduated from AFC Wimbledon academy. The youngster is now set to face his former club in his first game for Celtic, who have a new manager in Ange Postecoglou.

The 21-year-old is likely to partner Liam Shaw, who also signed from Sheffield Wednesday. Although Osaze can play in all defensive positions, he has impressed majorly from the centre back position.

The Dutch-born defender hasn’t played any game for any national team at any level, so he is still available for selection for the Super Eagles.

He could also opt to play for the Netherlands. If he decides to play for Nigeria, he will become the second Nigerian to play for Celtic after Efe Ambrose.
