The former Bordeaux manager has been forced to deal with many withdrawals, but he confirmed the squad number should increase to 20 today
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has revealed that Nigeria will have 20 players for the two friendly games against Cameroon, with Ahmed Musa and Paul Onuachu expected to arrive at the team’s camp today.
Eighteen players are already at the team’s base in Austria, but Rohr confirmed that Musa and Onuachu’s expected arrival would take the tally to 20.
The German tactician’s preparations for the game have been far from ideal, with six players pulling out of the squad due to injuries.
The team had their first training yesterday, but Rohr revealed it was light training as they had to be careful with the players to prevent injuries.
“Yes, it was okay, we had 18 players this afternoon,” Rohr told the Super Eagles media page when asked about the team’s first training.
“Some of them were travelling in the night, so we were very careful. We don’t want to have any injuries.
“We will be 20 tomorrow because two other players will arrive tomorrow. Onuachu and Musa and we will try to have a good team.
Rohr also added that the conditions ahead of the game are perfect, saying the first training session went well.
“The training sessions are okay. The conditions are good. Good grass, good weather, not too hot,” Rohr concluded.
The three-time African champions take on their arch-rivals in two doubleheader friendly games on June 4 and 8.
