Super Falcons set to end US summer series without a win

The eleven-time African champions are still looking for their first win in the US summer series following their failure to beat Portugal

Nigeria’s Super Falcons came back from two goals down to salvage a 3-3 draw against Portugal in their US summer series fixtures at BBVA Stadium.

The Super Falcons, under their new manager, Randy Waldrum, went into the clash looking to bounce back from their opening day defeat against Jamaica.

However, they got off to a bad start as the Portuguese went ahead in the 22nd minute courtesy of an own goal before Carole Costa doubled their lead.

Nigeria pulled one back before the break through Michelle Alozie, but Portugal restored their two-goal lead just a few minutes after half-time when Telma Encarnacao slotted home.

An own goal gave the Super Falcons a lifeline, which they eventually took as Rasheedat Ajibade struck to salvage a draw for the team.

Nonetheless, it’s a disappointing result for Nigeria, and they are now in danger of ending the series without a win. The Super Falcons need a miracle to pick up a win in their final game as they face the number one ranked team in the world, the USA.
