Fenerbahce to swap one Nigerian star with another – report

Fenerbahce have started negotiations with Monaco regarding a potential swap deal for Nigeria international Henry Onyekuru, according to Fotospor.

The Turkish giants are open to including Nigerian-born winger Bright Osayi-Samuel in the deal that will take Onyekuru to the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.

Osayi-Samuel only joined the Yellow-Navy Blues from Queens Park Rangers in January after the Turkish side won the race to his signature among several interested clubs.

The 23-year-old failed to sparkle for Fenerbahce in the 18 matches he featured in the Super Lig over the second half of the season.

He scored only one goal – in the 3-0 win at Konyaspor in March – but struggled to make a significant impact. Now, Fotospor has suggested that FB president Ali Koç is looking to cash in on the Nigeria-born talent.

Rated at £3m, Osayi-Samuel is not short of admirers as Scottish rivals Rangers, and Celtic have been linked to the flying winger.

But Fenerbahce have their attentions locked on Onyekuru, who impressed at rivals Galatasaray, scoring five goals and providing another four assists in only 14 games for coach Fatih Terim’s side.

The Yellow Canaries are at the forefront of the race to sign the Nigerian international from Monaco after Galatasaray decided not to activate the €4.5 million buy option in his loan deal.

And the Turkish side have reportedly opened transfer talks with the French club with a plan to swap Onyekuru with Osayi-Samuel.

Olympiacos are also interested in Onyekuru, and the Greek champions could stand a better chance to land the Super Eagles star as he may not be eager to move to Galatasaray’s city rivals.
