The South African side will play in the final of the biggest club competition in Africa after they edged out Wydad Casablanca
Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was the hero as Kaizer Chiefs booked their spot in the CAF Champions League final after playing a goalless draw against Wydad Casablanca at the Amakhosi Stadium.
Kaizer Chiefs progressed after they won the first leg 1-0. However, the Amakhosi had their goalkeeper to thank in the second leg after he made a whopping seven saves.
Akpeyi was handed a surprise start by Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter following an injury to Bruce Bvuma. And the Nigerian repaid his coach’s trust with a man of the match display.
Wydad were on that attack from the first minute, but their efforts were thwarted by a spirited Akpeyi. The 34-year-old denied Ayoub El Kaabi on several occasions, while his acrobatic save also prevented Aymane Hassouni from breaking the deadlock.
It was indeed a brilliant performance from the former Warri Wolves shot-stopper, whose last appearance in the competition came in the group stage match against the same opposition.
Chiefs will now meet either Al-Ahly or Esperance in the final.
