The former Manchester City man could not find the back of the net, but his international compatriot was brilliant as the Foxes stunned the Blues to land the oldest domestic cup competition in the world
Kelechi Iheanacho did not score, but he made history along with Wilfred Ndidi as Leicester City won the FA Cup for the first time in their history following a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the final.
Iheanacho might not have scored in the final, but his four goals in previous rounds, including the semifinal win against Southampton, put the Foxes en route to this victory.
His countryman, Wilfred Ndidi, was brilliant as usual in the middle of the park to help Brendan Rodgers men to a stunning win over Thomas Tuchel’s men.
While Iheanacho was on the pitch for just 67 minutes, Ndidi played the entire duration of the game. The former Genk man won eight duels, made seven successful tackles and two interceptions.
The match itself was a cagey affair, with both sides unable to find the breakthrough in the opening half. However, Leicester took the lead in the 63rd minute through Youri Tielemans, and it proved to be the only goal of the encounter.
The Belgian international received a pass from Luke Thomas before firing a rising shot past Kepa Arrizablaga in Chelsea goal.
Thomas Tuchel poured forward in numbers for an equaliser, and they thought they had one in the 90th minute after Wes Morgan deflected a Çağlar Söyüncü clearance into his net.
However, the goal was ruled out as Ben Chilwell was adjudged to have been in an offside position in the build-up.
It’s a deserved victory for Leicester and a perfect reward for their fantastic performance this season. Iheanacho and Ndidi now join John Mikel Obi, Kanu Nwankwo, Victor Moses, John Utaka, Daniel Amokachi, Alex Iwobi and Celestine Babayaro as the Nigerians to have won the FA Cup.
