“He looks like a world-beater” – Kelechi Iheanacho tipped to make possible Manchester City return

The Nigerian international is enjoying a phenomenal end to the 2020/21 season, and he could be on the way out of the King Power Stadium in the summer

Ex-Manchester City man Paul Stewart has been left impressed by Kelechi Iheanacho’s superb form this year, and he expects his former side to pull all the stops to sign the Nigerian forward if they want him as Sergio Aguero’s replacement.

Iheanacho was formerly at Manchester City after the Citizens snapped him up as a teen-wonder following a brilliant showing at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

But the Nigerian youngster was allowed to leave for Leicester City in 2017 for €27.7 million with Pep Guardiola keen on retaining only Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus as his main goalscoring options.

Much of Iheanacho’s time with the Foxes have been spent under-studying the prolific Jamie Vardy with the Leicester City number 14 living on the edge of being tagged a flop.

But his Leicester City career truly kicked on early this year when injuries to key players forced manager Brendan Rodgers to pair the Super Eagles man with Vardy.

Iheanacho has been simply a phenomenon, scoring 15 goals and supplying three assists for the Foxes in all competitions between February and May.

The 24-year-old’s excellent displays earned him the Premier League player of March, and he has also been shortlisted for the award in April.

And Stewart is convinced that Iheanacho has done enough to merit a look-in from Manchester City.

As per This is Football via MSN, the former Liverpool man said:

“If it was ten games ago, we wouldn’t be talking about whether they regret selling him or not but, I think he’s scored nine goals in his last eight games, and he looks like a world-beater again.

“If City want him back, they can go and buy him because they can afford him and can put pressure on Leicester as they’ll just keep going back with more money until they buckle under the pressure, and Iheanacho may force some of that on Leicester.”

Aguero is expected to depart Manchester City this summer with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, the Citizens’ preferred replacement.

But Iheanacho, who already has 18 goals and five assists in all competitions for Leicester City, could be the cheaper alternative to the Norwegian marksman.
