The German tactician has a plethora of attacking options to choose from ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers next month
Former Real Sociedad star Mutiu Adepoju has advised Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr to focus on strikers that would help him achieve his target at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
This season has been a remarkable one for Nigerian strikers in Europe, with the likes of Simy Nwankwo, Kelechi Iheancho, Paul Onuachu, Terem Moffi and Sadiq Umar all starring for their clubs.
Although Osimhen, Iheanacho, and Onuachu played a key role in helping the team qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, the others will be hoping to break through into the team when the World Cup qualifiers commence in June.
It leaves Rohr with a decision to make ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, starting next month.
However, in an interview with Soccernet.ng, Adepoju stated that the crop of exciting strikers in the national team should be good music to Rohr’s ears but urged the German tactician to select strikers that can help deliver the goals for the team.
“I am really proud of the calibre of strikers in the Super Eagles, and I know Gernot Rohr will be poised for choice ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and 2022 AFCON proper.
“To be frank with you, it will be difficult for any coaches to pick from the following strikers such as Osimhen, Onuachu, Iheanacho, Moffi, Simy, and Sadiq because they are good goal scorers in their different clubs in Europe.”
“As far I am concern, Rohr should select those strikers that will help to deliver the goals at the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and 2022 AFCON tournament. No need for sentiment at this point. The best must be selected.”
The three-time African champions open their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign next month with a home clash against Liberia.
