The Nigerian defender was impressive for the entire duration as the Baggies ended Thomas Tuchel unbeaten start to his tenure as the Blues boss
Semi Ajayi made his return to the West Brom starting lineup to help the Baggies record a stunning 5-2 win over Chelsea in their Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge. Ajayi had missed West Brom’s last four games, but he was restored into the lineup in Saturday’s early kickoff.
The Super Eagles star took the opportunity with a commanding display at the back. Ajayi made three successful tackles, won three interceptions and made two clearances, including one off the line. He was also brilliant with the use of his ball, with four successful long balls and 100% pass accuracy.
However, West Brom did not start well as they fell behind in the 27th-minute through Christian Pulisic, who finished off a Marcos Alonso freekick that had hit the bar. But Thiago Silva’s dismissal for a second bookable offence two minutes later changed the course of the game.
West Brom took advantage of the extra man, and they drew level through Matheus Pereira in the first-half added minute.
But just as it appears both teams would go into the break with the scores tied again, Pereira struck again to turn the game around for Sam Allardyce’s men.
The second half resumed with Chelsea looking for an equaliser, but Callum Robinson made the game safe for West Brom with a strike in the 63rd minute.
And five minutes later, Mbaye Diagne made it four. Although Mason Mount pulled one back for the Blues in the 71st minute, Robinson’s second of the afternoon in added time sealed an emphatic victory for the Baggies.
