FA Cup Final: Leicester City get kickoff time to unleash Kelechi Iheanacho on Chelsea

The in-form Foxes forward will aim to join the honoured list of Nigerian internationals who have triumphed in the world’s oldest domestic competition

The Emirates FA Cup final between Chelsea and Leicester City will kick-off at 5.15 pm (UK time), on Saturday, 15 May, the Football Association has announced.

The match, to be played at the Wembley Stadium, will be Kelechi Iheanacho’s chance to lift the first FA Cup trophy of his career.

The 24-year-old already boasted a Premier League winners medal and was a two-time League Cup champion with Manchester City.

Nwankwo Kanu, Mikel Obi, and Daniel Amokachi are three of the previous Nigerian winners of the FA Cup. Others are John Utaka, Celestine Babayaro, Victor Moses, and Alex Iwobi.

A historic final awaits Leicester City at Wembley. The Foxes were last at this concluding stage of the competition in 1969.

Hence, Chelsea, a team that has contested three of the last four finals, will be favourites on the day.

But in Iheanacho, Brendan Rodgers’ men possess a well-oiled weapon that can shoot down the Blues.

Having failed to play in the last four since 1982, Leicester City defeated Manchester United 3-1, all thanks to a brilliant brace from the Super Eagles ace to make it to the semifinals this year.

And it was the former Golden Eaglets prodigy who once again netted the winner against Southampton to book a date in the finals for the Foxes.

Iheanacho’s four goals in the FA Cup this season have already taken him past the legendary Didier Drogba as the most prolific African in the competition’s history.

And it only fits that he adds the trophy to seal his legacy.

However, Chelsea is a more formidable proposition under Thomas Tuchel, and an exciting game is expected in another two weeks.

But with Iheanacho in the form of his life, Leicester City will have a chance to be crowned champions.

It has been confirmed that Chelsea’s outfield players will wear the club’s home kit of blue shirts, blue shorts, and white socks, with the goalkeeper in all grey. Leicester’s outfield players will wear all maroon, with their goalkeeper in all green.
