The Everton star is not in the squad, while the clubless captain earns a spot on the bench despite the team’s coach comments
Alex Iwobi won’t play a part in Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against the Benin Republic after he was left out of the team’s squad.
The Everton man misses out after testing positive for Covid-19. In the line-up released by the team’s manager, Gernot Rohr, Iwobi was missing while Ahmed Musa made the substitute bench.
The German tactician named Maduka Okoye in goal while Ola Aina and Zaidu Sanusi occupy the full-back positions.
William Troost Ekong and Leon Balogun continue their partnership in defence, while Wilfred Ndidi and Joe Aribo are the two midfielders.
Henry Onyekuru and Samuel Chukwueze are the two wingers, while Kelechi Iheanach is paired with Victor Osimhen up front.
Meanwhile, there’s a place for Musa on the bench despite Rohr initially saying that he’s in the squad in a non-playing capacity.
The Super Eagles have already booked their place at next year’s Afcon, but they could seal the top spot with a win against the Squirrels.
Super Eagles Xi: Okoye, Aina, Sanusi, Ekong, Balogun, Ndidi, Aribo, Chukwueze, Onyekuru, Iheanacho and Osimhen.
