The Nigerian international proved to be an impact option off the bench as he starred in the Billy Goats’ score draw at home to Werder Bremen on Sunday
Substitute Emmanuel Dennis provided an assist as Cologne forced Werder Bremen to a 1-1 draw in a Bundesliga matchday 24 fixture played at the RheinEnergie Stadion.
Dennis, a January transfer loan signing from Club Brugge, watched from the bench as the two sides battled to a scoreless first-half, only for the visitors to take the lead shortly after the hour-mark through Joshua Sargent.
But manager Markus Gisdol introduced Dennis in place of Ondrej Duda in the 71st-minute to boost his side’s attacking options.
And it paid off 12 minutes later when the Nigerian attacker found space in the opposition box to lay it on a plate for Jonas Hector to bang in the equaliser for the home side.
Having lost in recent times to Eintracht Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and champions Bayern Munich, the draw helps Cologne halt a three-game losing run in the Bundesliga.
Despite such terrible form, Gisdol’s men still sit 14th on the league table, a decent four points above Mainz and Arminia Bielefeld in the relegation zone.
Yet without a goal after six appearances in the German top-flight, Dennis will take solace in a satisfactory 20-minute performance that highlighted much of his pace and improving intelligence in the final third.
