The Nigerian forward finally put an end to a two-game run without a goal to power his side to the next round of the cup competition
Paul Onuachu bagged a late winner for Genk as the Blue-Blacks downed Sint-Truiden 1-0 to book their place in the quarterfinals of the Belgian FA Cup.
Onuachu last found the back of the net on January 27, netting a brace in his side’s 3-2 victory over Zulte-Waregem.
The 26-year-old fired blank in Genk’s stalemate at Mechelen and the 1-2 home defeat to Vincent Kompany’s Anderlecht.
But the Super Eagles striker shook off his mini-drought to slam home Bryan Heynen’s pass in the 87th-minute and hand John van den Brom’s men the win that draws them closer to a domestic cup triumph.
It is Onuachu’s first goal in his maiden appearance in the cup competition this season, with the former Midtjylland ace not on parade when Genk humbled lower league side Thes Sport 5-0 in the previous round.
The Nigerian forward has been unplayable in the league this term, scoring 22 goals in 25 First Division A matches for Genk.
The Luminus Arena landlords are, however, a staggering 17 points behind leaders and champions Club Brugge on the league table, with the FA Cup the only feasible route to glory at the end of the campaign.
