The Super Eagles goalkeeper endured a miserable night in goal as the Eredivisie Champions showed their quality over Henk Fraser’s men
Maduka Okoye made his 16th league appearance for Sparta Rotterdam in their clash against Ajax, but it was a night he wouldn’t want to remember as the Dutch champions put four past him.
The champions were 4-2 winners on the night- which means Okoye’s poor run of form in goal continues, and that will be a concern to Nigeria’s manager Rohr, who recently confirmed that the 21-year old is now the Super Eagles number one.
The Nigerian international has now conceded 25 times in 16 league games with just five clean sheets. Okoye’s night got off to the worst possible start when former West Ham striker, Sebastian Haller, tapped home a Dusan Tadic cross in the 14th minute.
Haller then scored his second of the night in the 37th minute to double the home side’s advantage. Perr Schuurs made it three in first-half stoppage time following another assist from Tadic.
Tadic then completed a hat-trick of assists as he set up Mohammed Kudus to score Ajax’s fourth in the 50th minute.
Danzell Gravenberch pulled one back for Sparta in the 53rd minute before he scored his second of the night in the first minute of added time to make the scoreline look respectable.
