The Super Eagles star was hoping to make his return from a two-month layoff this weekend, but he has now suffered another setback
Victor Osimhen will not make his return to the Napoli team this weekend after the Nigerian international tested positive for coronavirus.
Osimhen has been out of action for two months after picking up an injury in the first leg of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last November.
The 22-year-old was taken off with a shoulder injury midway through the second half of the Super Eagles disastrous 4-4 draw against their West African rivals.
Osimhen has subsequently missed Napoli’s seven matches as a result of the injury. However, he returned to training earlier this week ahead of Gli Azzurri’s trip to Cagliari this weekend.
But he has now been ruled out of that trip after testing positive for Covid-19. According to a statement released on Napoli’s social media pages, Osimhen returned a positive test taken on Thursday following the Nigerian’s return from an international trip.
However, Osimhen is asymptomatic, and he is self-isolating from the rest of the squad.
