Victor Moses Strikes To Send Spartak Moscow Into Title Dream

The former Nigerian international has taken little time to settle in Russia and was on the score sheet as his club ascended to the summit of the league table

On-loan Chelsea forward Victor Moses got his first goal on his first start in Russia as Spartak Moscow secured an excellent 3-1 win at Krasnodar on Saturday evening, Soccernet.ng reports.

Barely a week after coming off the bench to inspire the Muscovites to a 3-1 triumph at Bryan Idowu’s Khimki, Moses showed once again that he could be the missing piece in Spartak’s three-year title hunt.

Spartak Moscow, Russia’s most successful club, have not won the country’s Premier League since lifting the title in 2017.

But Moses struck in the 33rd minute to double Spartak Moscow’s lead after teammate Ezequiel Ponce had given the visitors a 13th-minute lead.

Leon Sabua’s close-range effort just before the hour mark reduced the deficit for the home side but Swedish forward Jordan Larsson lashed home Spartak’s third with ten minutes of the regulation period left.

Moses was replaced by Andrei Eshchenko in the 67th minute, with the former Crystal Palace and Wigan winger now boasting the incredible record of scoring for all the professional clubs he has represented except for Inter Milan, for whom he bagged five assists in the second half of 2019-2020.

With previous table-toppers Zenit losing at home to Rubin Kazan earlier in the day, the win at Krasnodar lifts Spartak Moscow to the top of the Russian Premier League table with 27 points from 12 games.
