Europe’s prestigious club competition, the UEFA Champions League returned on Tuesday, and a Nigerian international etched his name into the history book once again
Super Eagles star, Emmanuel Dennis scored in the Champions League for the second consecutive season as Club Brugge opened their campaign with 2-1 win over Zenith St Petersburg in Russia.
Dennis had scored twice in Brugge’s 2-2 draw against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu last season. He has now started in a similar style this season after he put Philippe Clement’s side ahead against Zenith in the 63rd minute.
The 22-year-old finished off a goal scramble after Zenith’s defence failed to clear properly in the box. However, the Russians hit back in the 74th minute courtesy of an Ethan Horvath’s own goal.
But with the match heading towards a draw, Charles De Ketelaere popped up in added time to hand the Belgian the lead and three precious away points.
