Former Super Eagles player, Odion Ighalo along with many other Nigeran stars has hit out at the President Muhamadu Buhari led government for their handling of the #endsars protest.
The movement against police brutality in Nigeria, which started as a protest against the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), got bloody on Tuesday night after soldiers fired at protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.
For over a week now, Nigerians have been on the streets across major cities in the country, calling for an end to police brutality.
However, the protests turned into anarchy in Lagos on Tuesday after hoodlums hijacked it, and that led the state government to impose a 24-hour curfew.
But protesters in Lekki and Alausa defied the order, and they continued with their protests. But as night approached, security forces were sent to Lekki Toll Gate, and they fired live ammunition at protesters, which has killed over four citizens.
Following the unfortunate incident, several Nigerian stars took to social media to condemn the action of the federal government.
Among the players to speak out is Manchester United’s Odion Ighalo, who said the Nigerian government is a shame to the world, and Nigerians are tired of them.
The former Super Eagles star said this shortly after United’s 2-1 win over Paris Saint Germain in their champions league opener at Parc Des Princes.
Everton star, Alex Iwobi, uploaded a picture of the Nigerian flag stained with citizens blood and attached a broken heart emoji.
Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho also sent a subtle message to the leaders with a caption saying; God is watching.
His compatriot, Wilfred Ndidi, put up the viral Nigerian flag picture with the caption; Pray for Nigeria.
Former goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, also aired his displeasure at the killings of citizens, saying it is a sad day for the country.
Other stars to call out the Nigerian president include UFC fighter, Kamaru Usman, while Anthony Joshua also expressed his support for the protesters.
