Newly Promoted La Liga Side Huesca Plan Summer Swoop For Super Eagles Star

The Azulgranas are returning to the Spanish top division after their first-ever adventure two years ago went awry and are looking for defensive reinforcements ahead of the coming campaign

Nigeria international defender Kenneth Omeruo is not keen on playing in the Segunda Division next season following Leganes’ relegation from La Liga and SD Huesca are ready to offer the former Chelsea defender a way out of this predicament, reports Cadena SER via Grada3.

Huesca gained promotion to the Primera Division at the end of last season after emerging as the champions of the 22-team Segunda Division.

It is the second time in the history of the Aragon-based club that they will be featuring in Spain’s elite league, having made their maiden bow during the 2018–19 season.

Huesca were demoted that same season after losing half of their league games, conceding as many as 65 goals.

Manager Miguel Ángel Sánchez Muñoz’s side will do well to avoid such defensive frailties on their La Liga return and have prioritized signing an experienced, top-quality defender.

Nigeria international Omeruo, who has starred in La Liga over the past two campaigns amassing 51 top-flight caps and scoring once, fits the bill perfectly.

The 26-year-old centre-back lifted the AFCON title with Nigeria in 2013 and also represented the West African nation at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Huesca may however find it hard to convince Leganes to part with Omeruo for anything less than the €5 million the Cucumber Growers paid to Chelsea last year to secure the permanent signing of the Super Eagles defender.

Nigeria youth international Kelechi Nwakali is currently on the books of Huesca, one of the smallest clubs in the Spanish Primera Division.
