The former Super Eagles goalkeeper made history when he became the first African coach to win a top-flight title in Europe, and he has now achieved another incredible feat
Ex-Nigerian international, Ndubuisi Egbo keeps etching his name into the record books after his KF Tirana side moved into the second round qualifying of the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League season.
While the 2019/2020 season winner is yet to be decided, next season’s competition has already started with the first qualifying round taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Egbo’s led Tirana side, who won the Albanian top-flight, entered in the first round of qualification and were drawn against Dinamo Tbilisi of Georgia.
Due to the disruption in the football calendar as a result of the coronavirus, the ties were a single game affair, and Tirana’s clash against Tbilisi took place in Georgia.
However, despite playing away from home, Egbo’s men came out on top with a 2-0 victory over their hosts. Goals from Agustin Torassa(48′) and Ernest Muci, four minutes from time, secured Tirana’s passage into the second qualifying round.
The win means Egbo is now the first African manager to lead a European team to victory in Europe’s biggest club competition.
The former Super Eagles star would hope to continue breaking new grounds when Tirana welcome Serbian champions, Red Star Belgrade in the second round of qualification.
