Super Eagles Midfielder Esiti Wins PAOK’s Best Player In June

PAOK Thessaloniki won just two of six games played during the month under review, and fans have judged their Nigerian import to have performed better than his mates, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigerian midfielder Anderson Esiti has been named PAOK’s Most Valuable Player for June – his first individual award in a PAOK shirt – after garnering the most votes from fans during an official poll.

Esiti amassed 11,888 votes, representing 59.68% of the total votes cast, to beat teammates Dimitris Giannoulis and Fernando Varela to second and third place, respectively.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder saw action for the last quarter of an hour in the 1-0 home loss to Olympiacos – the first game played when football in Greece returned from the coronavirus hiatus.

But ‘The Tank’ had done enough in that encounter to earn manager Abel Ferreira’s trust, and he started all of the White-Blacks five other matches in June and was particularly brilliant in the 2-0 win at Aris Thessaloniki.

PAOK also defeated OFI Crete 3-1, but two losses to league leaders Olympiacos, and a draw against Panathinaikos tempered the title hopes of the 2019 Greek champions.

Esiti joined PAOK last summer from Genk for €3.5 million on a four-year contract.
