The Lille hotshot held talks with Napoli’s officials last week, and Dries Mertens believes his potential addition will be a good thing for the club
Belgium striker Dries Mertens appears not to be bothered about the possibility of Osimhen competing with him, saying the Nigerian striker is the kind of player that Napoli needs.
Osimhen is a man in demand following an impressive debut season in France. The 21-year-old joined Lille from Royal Charleroi for 12m euros last season, but he’s now worth five times more after scoring 18 times in 38 games.
Lille are resigned to losing the Super Eagles star with Napoli in pole position to sign him. Osimhen was in Naples last week to have talks with the club’s chiefs.
Although he is yet to make a decision, Napoli striker, Mertens, believes his potential arrival is the kind of signing the club needs.
The Belgium international also revealed people from Osimhen’s former club Royal Charleroi spoke highly of the former Golden Eaglets star.
“My friends from Charleroi told me how well he played before going to France,” the Napoli talisman told Il Mattino. “I don’t know if he will come, but in any case, he is precisely the type of footballer that Napoli needs.
Meanwhile, Osimhen’s is expected to announce this week if he’ll be accepting Napoli’s offer.
