Kelechi Nwakali Speaks Following Huesca’s Promotion To La Liga

The Nigerian has had a disappointing season, but he’s happy it still ended in a Championship win and a chance to play in La Liga

Former Golden Eaglets star, Kelechi Nwakali, has shared his excitement after his Huesca’s side were crowned the champions of La Liga Smartbank.

The Azulgranas won the title after Cadiz were beaten at home by Albacete in the last round of fixtures on Monday night.

Huesca were two points behind Cadiz before the final round of games, but their 1-0 win over Sporting Gijon and Cadiz loss gave them the title.

Cristo Gonzalez strike in the 73rd minute was enough to seal the win for Francisco Javier Rodríguez’ side the three points which crowned them champions.

Nwakali was handed his first start of the season in the encounter, and he played the whole 90 minutes. The 22-year-old’s career has not gone according to plan since he broke out at the 2015 U-17 World Cup. Before last night, he has only featured three times for Huesca with all appearances coming as a substitute.

However, after the win, the former VV Venlo star took to his Instagram to express his delight.

“What a way to end the season; promotion to the La Liga: champion: first start: What a great God you are!,” he wrote on Instagram.

Nwakali will hope to get more opportunities when Huesca make their return to La Liga next season.
