One time Super Eagles star, Anthony Nwakaeme, was on target as league leaders, Trabzonspor defeated Gotzepe in their first league game since the Super Lig was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Nwakaeme, who made his Super Eagles debut in a World Cup Qualifier against Algeria, opened the scoring for Trabzonspor in the 16th minute.
It was his 11 goal in 25 league appearances for the Karadeniz Fırtınası, while he has also provided nine assists this term. Nwakeme’s goal ensured the away side went into the break with the lead.
Following the restart, Trabzonspor doubled their lead courtesy of a Caleb Ekuban strike from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute.
However, Goetzepe got themselves back in the game five minutes later as they were awarded a penalty, which Alpaslan Ozturk converted. Nevertheless, Abdulkadir Omur’s strike six minutes from time dashed any hope of a comeback.
With the win, Trabzonspor stay on top with 56 points, three clear of Istanbul Basaksehir who have a game in hand.
