The exciting winger has yet to replicate last season’s form, but his club manager insists he’s on his way to becoming a top player
Villarreal coach, Javi Calleja, believes Samuel Chukwueze is already a complete player despite his indifferent form this campaign.
Chukwueze was one of the breakout stars in La Liga last season after a series of brilliant performances for Villarreal.
It was the former Golden Eaglets star debut season with Villarreal’s first team, which made his feat more impressive.
While it was expected that he would build on that, Chukwueze hasn’t really matched the heights of his debut campaign.
The Nigerian international has only managed four goals and five assists in 33 appearances for the Yellow Submarines this season.
However, he’s played a major role in two of Villarreal’s victories since La Liga returned from the coronavirus break. He had a hand in the win over Celta Vigo and provided the assist for Carlos Bacca in the win over Real Mallorca.
Following his performances in those games, Villarreal manager, Javi Calleja believes Chukwueze is already a complete player, and he’ll be world-class if he continues to work harder.
“We’ve worked a lot, and Samu is a very complete player. If he continues on this path, he’ll become a really top footballer,” Calleja said in a press conference.
The 21-year-old did not start in the game against Granada, but he was a second-half substitute as Villarreal earned their third consecutive 1-0 win.
