Despite picking his club’s award for the goal of the season, Moses Simon is yet to come to terms with the fans’ choice
Nigeria international Simon netted nine times in his maiden campaign in France with his excellent header against Nice voted by the supporters of the Yellow Canaries as Nantes Goal of the Season.
But the former KAA Gent forward has revealed that he expected his solo effort against champions PSG to trump all others.
When Nantes hosted coach Tuchel’s men in February on Match Day 23, goals from Mauro Icardi and Thilo Kehrer gave PSG a two-goal lead before Simon grabbed a consolation strike for the homers in stunning fashion.
The Nigerian forward picked up a loose ball and ran 40 meters with it before rounding the keeper and firing home with his left foot.
But Nantes’ fans preferred his header against Nice as the Canaries best goal this term.
And having earlier been named the club’s player of the season, Simon confesses he didn’t think he could win the two awards.
“To be honest, I did not expect it,” the Super Eagles wise man told ESPN.
“I just wanted to go there and do my job.
“I didn’t even expect that goal to win it. I thought it would be the goal against PSG. But they voted that one to be the best goal.
“I don’t mind, though, it is my goal, so it doesn’t matter. I just think the goal against PSG was better.”
