Moses Simon: Why I Did Not Play Well At Levante

The Super Eagles winger surpassed all expectations in France while playing on loan at Nantes

Nigerian international Moses Simon admits that he did not produce his best performances at Levante last season because of communication issues with the coach.

Simon burst to prominence in Belgium after excelling for KAA Gent before Levante parted with €5 million to take the speedy winger to Spain.

The 24-year-old forward, however, found it hard to settle down at his new club, scoring just once in 23 games for the Primera Division side.

Nantes offered Simon a chance for a fresh start, with the Nigerian agreeing to spend the 2019-2020 season on loan in France.

And what a splendid year it has been for the former Trencin talisman, scoring nine goals, creating eight assists and winning Nantes’ Player of the Season award. He is already being rated among Nigeria’s most exceptional players ever to grace Ligue 1.

But how has he flopped in Spain only to fly high in France? Simon explained to ESPN:

“At Levante, I did not play very well due to some circumstances with the coach,” he said.

“In Spain, the coach only spoke Spanish, and I needed a translator.

“It was easier to play in France because I understand the language more and the communication is very good with the coach.

“I am enjoying my football now. The most important thing is to play. Not to sit on the bench. To have the freedom to play, have the freedom to speak. and to do what you know how to do best.”
