Former AFCON Winner Says Simon’s Nantes Move Is A Good One But Gives Conditions

The Nigeria international was rewarded with a permanent deal by the French club after excelling during a loan spell

Former Super Eagles assistant coach Sylvanus Okpala says Moses Simon’s move to Nantes would be considered a fantastic one if he’s able to make good money and continue to enjoy regular playing time at the club.

Simon left Levante for the Yellow Canaries after agreeing to a four-year deal that is rumoured to cost the French side around €5 million.

The move came after the Super Eagles winger featured in 30 appearances in all competitions for Christian Gourcuff’s side, scoring nine goals and creating eight assists.

Already one of Nigeria’s finest stars in France, Simon scooped Nantes’ Player of the Year award as well as the Goal of the Season award for his glancing header against Nice.

1980 AFCON winner Okpala welcomes Simon’s switch to Nantes but insists that the wideman must prioritize making money and making a name for himself by playing regularly.

“It is good for him as long as he is making his money,” Okpala told the Punch.

“I hope it’s a good money move. When you move to a club, you look at your age because you play football with age.

“Once you are in your 30s, you have fewer years to play. It doesn’t mean that you are making that move solely for the money, you are moving to get to the next level in your career in terms of one transition to the other, not necessarily for money.

“Playing every weekend and not sitting on the bench is the most important thing. But you don’t just move for moving sake; you also move for money, football is all about making name and making money.”
