The veteran forward, one of Trabzonspor’s most decisive players this campaign, has revealed that the club is focused on lifting the two domestic trophies in Turkey.
One-cap Super Eagles ace Anthony Nwakaeme has declared Trabzonspor’s readiness to push forward towards challenging for glory in the Super Lig and the Turkish Cup when football returns to the European nation.
Before the coronavirus pandemic forced the suspension of football in Turkey just over a month ago, Trabzonspor sat as joint-leaders with Instabul Basaksehir atop the league table.
Coach Hüseyin Çimşir’s side had recorded a similar 53 points with Basaksehir but edged the top spot thanks to a better goal difference of +31.
Nwakaeme’s impressive tally of ten goals and nine assists has been crucial in advancing Trabzonspor’s charge this term as the club target their first league triumph in 36 years.
The former Hapoel Be’er Sheva ace has netted another two goals in four starts in the Turkish Cup to keep the Black Sea Storm in the hunt for a trophy they last won ten years ago.
Preparations are in top gear to get football back on the pitch in Turkey, and the 31-year-old Nigerian attacker insists he and his teammates are as ambitious and motivated as ever in training for the challenges ahead.
“We are preparing as if to play a match tomorrow. We work very hard. The team morale is also good,” Nwakaeme said as quoted by the Haberguncel.
“Continuing from where we left off, we want to be champions and to win the Turkey Cup at the end of the season.
“We were in shape and leading before the leagues were delayed. Trabzonspor deserve the championship this season.”
Trabzonspor travel to Goztepe on the 11th of next month to kick off the final rounds of matches for the season.
