Official: Osimhen Beats Ben Yedder To Ligue 1’s Team of the Season

There’s no room in the elite eleven for the top scorer of the French top division with the Nigerian striker taking his spot

Despite scoring five fewer goals than Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder, Lille’s Victor Osimhen has been picked alongside Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe as the three most exciting forwards in the French Ligue 1’s Team of the Season.

In only his first season in France, Osimhen smashed in 13 league goals before the 2019-20 campaign was prematurely concluded due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The 21-year-old’s best efforts were, however, only good enough to end as the league’s joint-fourth most prolific goal scorer.

Frenchmen Ben Yedder and Mbappe topped the scorer’s chart with 18 goals apiece, followed by Lyon’s Moussa Dembele with 16 goals.

But both Dembele and Ben Yedder were snubbed in the Ligue 1’s Team of the Season with Osimhen preferred upfront, alongside PSG’s excellent duo of Mbappe and Neymar.

Osimhen’s exploits have also attracted the attention of top European clubs, with Napoli confirmed to be seriously interested in the young striker.

Even Nigeria’s Moses Simon, who enjoyed a fantastic campaign that saw him claim Nantes’ Best Player of the Year award, did not feature in the league’s Best Eleven.
