Good News For Nigeria

The Super Eagles and Gernot Rohr have been handed a massive boost ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers after it was confirmed that Ovie Ejaria has switched international allegiance.

The 22-year-old was born in London and has represented the Three Lions at youth level. However, Ovie qualifies to play for Nigeria through his parents.

And according to ESPN journalist, Colin Udoh, the Reading man has committed his international future to the Super Eagles, and all that is left is a clearance from the world’s football governing body, FIFA.

The former Rangers star decision comes after Cyriel Dessers also switched his international allegiance to Nigeria.

The Heracles striker was set to make his Super Eagles Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone, but the doubleheader was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ovie joins the likes of Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Semi Ajayi and Joe Aribo as players of Nigerian origins who chose the Super Eagles ahead of the Three Lions.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan from Liverpool to Reading and has made 35 appearances for the Royals this campaign.
