NFF Right To Review Rohr’s Performance- Former Stoke City Player

Rohr’s contract expires in June, but the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are not obligated to hand him a new contract according to former Nigeria international, Seyi Olofinjana.

The former Stoke City midfielder insists he can’t speak on Rohr’s contract situation as he does not know the agreement between him and the NFF.

Rohr signed with Nigeria on an initial two-year deal in 2016 before extending it for another two years in 2018. During this period, he has led Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup and 2019 AFCON with the Super Eagles finishing in third place in the latter.

He has also created a team full of youth and convinced a couple of players with dual nationality to play for Nigeria.

But despite what he’s done, Rohr still divides opinion with many criticising him for his conservative approach to games.

And with his current contract expiring in June, there have been arguments on whether he deserves a new deal.

While speaking on the issue in an interview with Footballersconnect, former Wolves midfielder, Seyi Olofinjana says he is not in a position to judge, and only the NFF can review the former Bordeaux manager’s performance.

“He has been in the country for a number of years and taken us to the Nations World Cup. I wouldn’t know what his KPI’s are, what did the Nigeria Football Federation say to Gernot Rohr that if you do one, two, three things you qualify automatically for a new contract?

“Why should I be in the position slating Rohr or the NFF? It might be to take us to the semi-final of the World cup, and you get another contract, we put figures to it. That is what we do over here, Olofinjana said.

“It is a performance industry if you don’t perform, you don’t go forward. Jose Mourinho is in Tottenham today if he does not perform, he does not go forward.”
