Enyeama Laments CAF’S POTY Loss To Yaya Toure

The former Lille star lost out to Yaya Toure at the 2014 CAF Player of the year awards but hinted it was not a fair decision.

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama believes he also deserved to win the 2014 African player of the year which went to Yaya Toure.

The former Ivory Coast international won the award for a record-equalling fourth time, beating Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Vincent Enyeama to the prize.

Toure reigned supreme that year after leading Manchester City to the league title and also scoring 20 goals in the process.  However, Enyeama believes Toure did not do more than him, and he could have also won the award.

While Toure enjoyed success at club level, he could not replicate the form with his country, Ivory Coast. Enyeama, on the other hand, was brilliant for both club and country.

The former Nigeria international believes it’s time for CAF to create a player of the year award for goalkeepers alone.

“I never won African player of the year, the year Yaya Toure won, he didn’t do more than me, Enyeama said in an Instagram Live chat with Super Eagles account.

“Actually, goalkeepers should have their own African player of the year category,” he added.
