Coronavirus Lockdown: Three Simple Indoor Exercises To Keep Your Body In Top Shape

It is essential to continue to maintain our physical and mental health during this Federal Government lockdown brought about by the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

The pandemic has claimed more than 46,000 lives globally and affected nearly a million while Nigeria has recorded two deaths from 174 cases since the first reported case on February 27.

The development saw the Nigerian government order a two-week lockdown last Friday and closed all its borders, including land, air, and water, in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

With residents of Lagos, Ogun and Abuja set to remain indoors for the next few days, Soccernet shares with you three simple exercises to help you stay healthy and fit, even without expensive gym equipment.

1. High knees
A lot of people who love running may not get enough space inside their homes to try the 100m sprints or even the 60m dash. Running is great, and whatever you decide to do in its place must be able to get the heart rate equally pumping.

That’s where the high knees beat nearly all alternatives, especially if you go double time.

To do this exercise, match down a hall or corridor and bring your knees as high as they can go. Increase your pace after every turn.

2. Jump rope
The sight of a jump rope reminds adults about their childhood playground days, but there is more everyone can get from that strong cord during these lockdown days.

You would need another person to help you swing the rope when its other end is fixed.

A few minutes over the jump role should get you literally out of breath. And be on the lookout for your calves the following day.

If you want a good cardio workout in a matter of minutes, try a jump rope.

3. Stair stepping
Those set of stairs available in your home can help provide a platform for another great exercise to try indoor.

And even if you don’t have a set of stairs, a small, sturdy chair, a large enough stone, or the biggest book you own can serve the same purpose.

Step up and down at a constant pace while listening to your favourite songs. You may not work up a sweat as you would with a jump rope, but you will be keeping your body active and healthy.
