Two Super Eagles Stars In The Premier League At Risk Of Contracting Coronavirus

The virus has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), and two Super Eagles stars are at the risk of being infected.

Nigerian stars, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi are in danger of contracting the coronavirus after it was confirmed that three Leicester City players have shown symptoms of the disease, and have been kept away from the squad.

Over 120,000 people have been infected with the virus with over 4,000 deaths already recorded. The fall-out of the disease has affected sporting events with a couple of matches played behind closed doors across Europe.

Juventus star, Daniele Rugani, is the first high profile player that tested positive to the virus, but it appears the Premier League may have its first case.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Leicester City’s clash against Watford on Saturday, Foxes manager, Brendan Rodgers confirmed three players from his squad have displayed symptoms of the virus, and are currently kept in quarantine.

We’ve had a few players that have shown symptoms and signs (of coronavirus). We’ve followed procedures and (as a precaution) they have been kept away from the squad,” Rodgers told reporters at his press conference.

The news put Super Eagles stars, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho at risk as they play for the Foxes. Details about the three players that have been kept away from the squad are not available right now.

The coronavirus has caused a major disruption to the football calendar with some European leagues currently on a suspension to prevent the spread of the virus.

The entire Real Madrid squad are in quarantine after it was confirmed a player from the basketball side tested positive to the virus. As a result, the Spanish football authorities decided to suspend La Liga for the next two weeks.

Italy, which has the highest number of reported cases in Europe have suspended all sporting events, including the Serie A until April 3.

UEFA announced today they would be holding an emergency meeting on March 17 to discuss solutions to the fall-out of the disease.  Champions League games and Europa League games could be suspended until the virus is contained.
