Ifeanyi George’s Tragedy: NFF, LMC Release Statement

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and League Management Committee (LMC) have sent their condolences to Rangers and families of Ifeanyi George and Emmanuel Ogbu who lost their lives today.

The two Rangers stars alongside a friend were involved in a ghastly accident which claimed their lives. According to reports, they were on their way to Lagos when their Car ran into a parked truck.

The news comes just two weeks after Nasarawa United’s Chineme Martins passed away in a league encounter against Katsina United.

George and Ogbu were returning to their base after Rangers gave its players a 10-days break following the suspension of the NPFL due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Following the tragic news, the nation’s football governing body, NFF took to Twitter to send in a condolence message to the families of both players.

Also, the LMC chairman, Shehu Dikko, expressed his sadness after hearing the news, while he also prayed for the recoveries of those injured in the incident.

“We sympathise with the club at this trying time and pray for the repose of his soul and wish the injured ones a speedy recovery”, the LMC Chairman said in quotes obtained from the league’s website. 

George made two appearances for the home-based Eagles while he was also once on the books of Enyimba. He was 26-years-old until his death.
