The Nigerian forward grabbed a brace in the Red Devils’ convincing 3-0 defeat of Derby County at the Pride Park much to the admiration of teammate Luke Shaw.
The United fullback is impressed with the performance of Odion Ighalo following the on-loan striker’s double that ensured Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side move to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.
Ighalo was a surprise deadline day signing for Manchester United in what appeared to be a desperate move to cover for their transfer failures.
But the former Watford striker is proving to be a shrewd acquisition after he netted his third goal for the club in just his second start.
United have not lost a single game since Ighalo joined the team, with the Reds currently on a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
And with United still in the hunt for a top-four finish in the Premier League and well-placed to go all the way in the FA Cup and the Europa League, Shaw can only hope the Nigerian continues his excellent form in front of goal.
“He’s flying, and the manager said before the game when he gets a chance, there’s not many he misses,” Shaw told MUTV
“He could’ve had a hat-trick, and he could have been going home with the match ball, but two goals and two good finishes. We’re very pleased for him, and long may that continue.”
United will be back in action on Sunday when they take in a derby date with arch-rivals Manchester City.
