Super Eagles Star Mentality Questioned At His Ligue 1 Side

The end may not be in sight to the crisis bedevilling Nigeria international Samuel Kalu at Bordeaux following the latest pronouncements made by his club boss.

Manager Paolo Sousa has warned Kalu to sit up and show more commitment to Les Girondins cause or see himself thrown out of the club for good.

Kalu joined the Bordeaux in 2018 and enjoyed an excellent debut season in France, amassing 32 matches across all competitions.

This term also started on a decent note for the Super Eagles star with the former Gent ace featuring in 18 games and notching a goal in the first half of the campaign.

But the Nigerian has dropped down in the pecking order since the turn of the New Year, finding it difficult to break into the line up of the Ligue 1 side. Kalu has only seen 30 minutes of action – a 2-1 home loss to Lyon – in 2020.

Although Sousa confirmed that the winger is suffering from an injury, he questioned the 22-year-old’s mentality.

“Samuel Kalu cannot yet train normally with the group, he has a knee problem,” Sousa told the club website via Brila.

“We did an exam (MRI) and he has nothing, but he is in pain and cannot train. He just started running again yesterday, so we have to reinstate him.

“But we are waiting for him to change his mental attitude and his level of commitment in training to have a place to play again on the team.

“He doesn’t change his mentality, there is no place for him in our matches. But it’s the same for the others.”

Kalu has missed the last four games for Bordeaux, and he’s set to be unavailable again this weekend when Bordeaux make the trip to face Metz on Saturday.
