Nigeria international defender Semi Ajayi revealed his thirst for more goals after netting in West Bromwich Albion’s 2-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday at The Hawthorns.
Former Rotherham star, Ajayi, played crucial roles at both ends of the pitch to help Albion end a seven-game winless run. The straightforward victory sees Slaven Bilic’s side earn their first clean sheet in 11 league outings and lifts them back to the summit of the Sky Bet Championship.
Donervon Daniels’ own-goal early in the first half edged the hosts in front before Ajayi headed home the second in the other half to earn the Baggies their first three-point return on home soil since the beginning of December.
It was the 26-year-old’s fifth goal of the campaign at The Hawthorns, and he is now just three shy of his total for Rotherham last season.
“It would be nice to beat last season’s tally because that’s the most I’ve ever got,” the Arsenal Academy graduate told West Brom’s official website.
“I’m on target at the moment, so hopefully I can keep scoring goals that help the team pick up three points every week. That would be nice.
“Before a game, my main focus is a clean sheet, but when I get the chance to go forward, of course, I’m thinking about it. Most of the time, throughout the 90 minutes, my sole focus is on defending.”
Ajayi only joined West Brom at the start of this season, but he has been a mainstay of the Baggies’ defence, amassing 28 league appearances so far.
