Emmanuel Amuneke Hoping Success In Egypt Will Open Doors For Others

The Nigerian legend has only been in charge of two matches for his Misr Lel Makasa side, but he is already looking to blaze the lights for others to follow.

Emmanuel Amuneke was a former Zamalek hero as a player in the 90’s, and he is back in the land of the Pharaohs to manage one of the league’s struggling sides.

The former Nigeria international has achieved success almost everywhere he has coached but helping Misr Lel Makasa avoid relegation may be his biggest challenge yet.

The Egyptian club currently lies in 16th position on the 18-team table and have won just two of their 17 matches played so far in the Premier League.

1994 African Footballer of the Year, Amuneke, is aware it won’t be an easy task to pull his new side out of the relegation waters.

But having guided the Golden Eaglets to lift the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup and Tanzania’s national football team to a rare appearance at the 2019 Afcon, the 49-year-old Nigerian hopes his success can make him the first of many other foreigners to land coaching gigs in Egypt.

“Everything lies in the hands of God. He knows how and why He does His things, especially in bringing me back to Egypt, ” the former Barcelona winger told Oriental Daily News.

“I’m privileged to be amongst the first African coaches, outside of Egyptian origin to coach a club here. Don’t forget that I played here in Egypt, and for me to come back now in the capacity of a coach is an honour.

“So, the success I make of it will open door for as many others as possible. But everything lies in the hands of God,” he concluded.
