Dimitar Berbatov Reveals The Qualities He Likes In Man United’s Odion Ighalo

The former Old Trafford hero hails the signing of Odion Ighalo and thinks getting the 30-year-old is a positive move for Manchester United.

Dimitar Berbatov believes Ighalo’s prior Premier League experience, his goalscoring prowess, and his deep passion for Man United makes him the ideal signing for the club.

United completed the signing of the former Nigeria international on deadline day, a decision that split the Red Devils fanbase.

United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in a desperate search for a striker last month following an injury to star striker Marcos Rashford. With time running out on January 31, the club plumped for Ighalo, who was one of the only available options.

The 2019 African Cup of Nations’ highest goalscorer has proven he can score goals in the Premier League at Watford, albeit three years ago before his move to Shanghai Shenhua. And that convinced Berbatov United are getting a quality striker, although he wants to see how Solskjaer will utilise him.

“I think it’s a good move for United because Ighalo has played in the Premier League, and did well with Watford, so he will know what to expect,” Berbatov told Betfair.

“He’s scored plenty of goals in China and his record for Nigeria is impressive too.

“I want to see him play as soon as possible because I’m curious to see how he will fit into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

“Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both like to cut in from the left so United have arguably lacked a natural number nine this season.

“That’s what Ighalo should give them and I will be interested to see how they play with him in the side.

“I liked Ighalo’s interview in which he said how happy he was to move to Old Trafford.

“He was so keen that he told his agent he would accept a pay cut. It’s great to see United sign a player who is passionate about the club. They need players like that.”

Ighalo could make his United debut against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on February 17
