Ex international, Garba Lawal has tipped the Super Eagles to qualify from their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying group. Nigeria was paired with Cape Verde, Central African Republic and Liberia in Group C in the African section of the World Cup qualifiers.
In a chat with the former Leski Sofia midfielder, Chindo, as he was known during his playing days, told Soccernet.ng that the team shouldn’t find it difficult to qualify from the group. He also warned the team to be cautious and ensure they don’t underrate any of their opponents in Group C.
“I am confident the Super Eagles will pick the group ticket to move to the final phase, but I am not writing off any of the teams in the group, Lawal told Soccernet.
“We don’t have minnows in world football again. Anyone who knows how fast football is developing on the continent of Africa won’t make the mistake of undermining any team.”
“We all saw what Cape Verde did recently in the Africa Cup of Nations. Is that a team to be underrated,” he asked rhetorically.
Since Nigeria’s debut in 1994, the Super Eagles have been to five other FIFA World Cup tournaments, and have managed to reach the Round of 16 three times.
