Eberechi Eze is one of the top performers in the Championship and has been tipped as one of the stars of the future, but he has had to deal with rejections along the way.
Eze has notched 10 goals and 6 assists in the English second-tier already this term, and he may not even be a Rangers’ player by the time the January transfer window closes on the 31st. The 21-year-old is believed to be generating interests from a couple of Premier League sides with Tottenham supposedly leading the chase.
However, it has not always been smooth sailing for the exciting midfielder who suffered series of rejections by clubs who thought he could not make the grade.
Eze was considered not good enough by the likes of Fulham, Reading and Milwall, but it was Arsenal’s rejection that hurt the England youth international the most.
“It (The rejection) started at Arsenal,” he explained in an interview with The Independent.
“I was 13 [when I was released]. That was the worst one. I remember crying in my room for a solid week, my mum telling me that it’s going to be OK but not being able to get over it.
“Then I went to Fulham and I was finally starting to enjoy my football again. We played Arsenal a few months later but, when I went over to shake the academy manager’s hand, I started welling up. All the feelings came back.”
